Against the Word 'Ready'

Nothing important was ever ready. It was only begun enough for us to stop hiding.

We wait for the perfect moment the way you wait for a train nobody has scheduled. The child, the book, the move, the difficult conversation: if you wait until you are prepared, you will wait until you are dead, which is the only complete preparation.

Starting badly is a form of respect. It means the thing mattered to you more than your own dignity.
