Today beats tomorrow (and it costs you)

Offer people €100 today or €110 tomorrow, and many take today. But offer €100 in 30 days or €110 in 31, and almost everyone waits. Same one-day gap, same extra 10% — the only thing that changed is where your 'now' sits.

Behavioural economists call it present bias: your today-self demands special treatment it would never grant any future self. That's why saving 'starting next month' always feels easy, and saving this month feels impossible.

The trick isn't more willpower; it's taking the decision out of the present. An automatic transfer into savings on payday decides for you while it doesn't hurt yet.

Your today-self is a crooked negotiator. Get everything signed before it wakes up.
