Older than the trees

Sharks have been swimming the oceans for some 450 million years. The first trees appeared about 390 million years ago.

In other words: when the first tree took root on dry land, sharks had already been hunting the seas for 60 million years.

They have survived four mass extinctions. We, as a species, have been here barely 300,000 years.
