Buy things that pay you

The central idea of Robert Kiyosaki's «Rich Dad, Poor Dad» fits in a single line: an asset puts money into your pocket; a liability takes it out. The rich and the poor differ less in what they earn than in what they buy.

A financed car, the TV on installments or a house that only generates expenses are liabilities, even if you call them wealth. An index fund, a rented flat whose numbers add up, or a business that runs without you are assets.

Kiyosaki sums it up with a brutal question: every time €100 lands in your account, do you buy something that works for you or something that forces you to work more? Wealth begins the day you change that answer.
