Your money thermostat

“Secrets of the Millionaire Mind,” by T. Harv Eker, argues that each person carries an installed “financial thermostat”: a level of money that feels familiar and that they tend to return to, whatever they earn. That’s why some people receive an inheritance and evaporate it, while others build wealth on a modest salary.

According to Eker, that thermostat is programmed in childhood by the phrases we hear about money: that it corrupts, that it doesn’t grow on trees, that the rich are greedy. As adults we obey that script without knowing it exists.

Strip away the seminar wrapping and what’s usable is concrete: listen to what you tell yourself about money, because you end up spending the way you think. And put in order what you have, however little: whoever can’t manage €100 won’t manage €10,000 either.
