Idea · From the Margen catalogue

You're comparing your backstage with other people's stage

You feel behind because you're making a measurement error without noticing: you see everyone's opening night and nobody's rehearsals. Other people post their best take, the one good photo out of fifty, the achievement without the nights it cost. You, meanwhile, live it all from the inside: every doubt, every grey afternoon, every version of yourself that nobody shows.

You're comparing your backstage with everyone else's finished set. It's a comparison rigged by definition — not because they're lying, but because nobody posts their rehearsals.

This doesn't mean your life is worse and you should console yourself: it means the scales are broken. The only honest comparison there is, is with yourself a year ago. Everything else is measuring your whole film against somebody else's trailer, and losing by a rule you never agreed to play by.
