The Eiffel Tower is about 15 centimetres taller in summer than in winter.
Heat expands metal, and the tower is more than 7,000 tonnes of iron. When the sun strikes it, its atoms drift slightly apart and the whole structure stretches upward.
Then, in the cold, it shrinks back again. Paris has a monument that breathes with the seasons.
