In the hospital laundry, afternoon shift, the white sheet slides out of the hot roller and Milagros folds it five by two, without looking at it, without hearing the nurse waiting by the cart. In twenty minutes, the sheet will be in room 214, spread over a body that doesn't yet name it. The steam smells of midday and alcohol. Milagros raises her arm: room 215 is asking for two more towels. At seven she clocks out and goes down to the bar.
