Poem · From the Margen catalogue

Instructions for waiting at the vehicle inspection

Take ticket 47 and don't look at it again. Park on the yellow line like everyone else, engine off and the window down, and rehearse the line: "it only does that noise when it's cold".

The inspector is called Julen and he has spent eight hours telling people their headlights are crooked. Don't tell him your life: tell him about the noise.

When he hands back the sticker, smile, pull out slowly, and at the first roundabout turn up the volume so you can't hear the noise.
